Fatal Pecos County car crash death of Melissa Hernandez Trevizio
The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that a tragic two-car accident in Pecos County led to the death of a woman. According to the agency, Melissa Hernandez Trevizio, who was 57 years old, was a passenger in one of the vehicles that collided and caused her death.
Official records from the DPS indicate the fatal collision happened around 11:47 p.m. on September 7 at the intersection where Farm to Market Road 1776 meets Ruiz Street. Ms. Trevizio suffered severe injuries in the incident and was airlifted by AeroCare to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. She was then moved to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, but she unfortunately passed away on September 12 due to her injuries.
Preliminary findings from the DPS investigation revealed the first vehicle involved was a 2014 Freightliner pulling a trailer, which was making a right turn onto Ruiz Street. Simultaneously, a second vehicle, a 2021 Chevy Silverado towing a trailer, was heading north on FM 1776. The report states the driver of the Chevy Silverado was distracted and unable to manage their speed, leading them to attempt an avoidance maneuver that resulted in striking the trailer of the Freightliner.
The driver of the Freightliner was identified as Martin Mesa Osmelio, aged 53 from Hobbs. The driver of the Chevy Silverado was Rigoberto Trevizio Jr., who is 30 and from Presidio. Neither of these drivers sustained any injuries in the crash.
The DPS has confirmed this accident is still under investigation, and no further updates have been provided to the public as of now.
