Fatal City Heights shooting death of Mark Edward Tome

San Diego authorities apprehended Keith Rose on Friday, following his suspected involvement in the fatal shooting of a 52-year-old man in the City Heights area earlier that week.

Keith Rose, a 72-year-old man, was arrested at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Friday in the vicinity of 4800 Filipo Street. According to investigators, Rose resides directly across the street from the location where the shooting incident occurred on Tuesday.

Around 11:55 p.m. on Tuesday, officers were alerted by someone stopping their vehicle and reporting hearing gunshots near 43rd Street and Polk Avenue.

Upon examining the area, police discovered an individual unconscious in the western alleyway of 43rd Street, situated between University and Polk Avenue. The man, believed to be homeless, was brought to a nearby medical facility where he was pronounced deceased.

The deceased man has been identified as Mark Edward Tome, a resident of San Diego.

Following the discovery, homicide detective teams were dispatched to the scene to begin their investigation. They gathered information indicating that Tome had engaged in a minor physical altercation with another man in the alley just before the shots were fired. A person initially considered a person of interest was questioned but allowed to return to the streets pending further investigation.

Subsequently, detectives identified Keith Rose as the prime suspect. Police officials stated that they have not yet determined the nature of the relationship between Tome and Rose.
