Fatal Birmingham shooting death of Tony Dewayne Davis
According to reports, a man in Birmingham, Alabama, has passed away two days after police indicated he shot a woman and subsequently killed himself in a home incident. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Tony Dewayne Davis on Monday, noting he was 35 years old.
At 11:47 p.m. on Wednesday, police received a call about gunshots at a residence on Kiser Road. Responding officers were informed upon arrival that an injured female and the person who fired the weapon were still present inside the property.
Upon entering the home, the officers encountered Denise Tolbert, a 40-year-old woman, who was found unresponsive with signs of a gunshot wound. Medical personnel confirmed her death at the scene at 12:30 a.m. The suspect, Tony Dewayne Davis, was discovered injured in a bedroom and later transported to UAB Hospital, where he died on Friday at 2:45 p.m.
According to Sgt. LaQuitta Wade, Davis shot Tolbert before turning the gun on himself. Wade also mentioned that several people were inside the house during the incident, but no one else was harmed.
