A 27-year-old man named Wilson De Leon Gutierrez, who sustained fatal injuries from an assault involving a large stick, was identified Monday following the incident in Rowland Heights.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, emergency responders were dispatched to the 18000 block of Colima Road around 11 p.m. on Friday due to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon.
Upon their arrival at the intersection of Colima Road and Jellick Avenue, law enforcement personnel found one individual suffering from significant blunt force trauma injuries. Medical professionals assessed the scene and confirmed the man’s death shortly after their arrival.
The man’s identity was confirmed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office on Monday, with the official cause of death determined to be blunt force trauma specifically affecting the head region.
Sheriff’s authorities reported that an individual responsible for the assault employed a large stick as the instrument of violence before fleeing the scene in a bus. Subsequently, deputies intercepted the bus and apprehended a subject of interest.
