The fatal drowning death of Leron Lee Williams

Law enforcement agencies in South Carolina are currently examining a tragic incident that resulted in a man’s death while engaged in recreational activities. Williams, aged 34, was involved in an accident near a farm pond in Blacksburg.

According to the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office, Williams was operating a boat with his six-year-old son on a pond situated along Jones Street when the accident transpired around 6:00 p.m. The preliminary report indicates that Williams was not equipped with a personal flotation device at the time.

Further details from the investigation suggest that the boy provided statements to authorities. He recounted that both he and his father were in the process of shifting positions within the boat when his father fell into the water and failed to resurface. The child then exited the vessel and swam to the nearest point on shore to summon assistance.

Approximately one hour later, around 7:30 p.m., Williams was located by responders from the Cherokee-Kings Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Medical personnel confirmed his death on the scene.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the coroner has announced that an autopsy will be conducted. This particular drowning incident represents the first such fatality reported in Cherokee County for the current year.
