Fatal Lafayette shooting death of Gerardette Burke
The Lafayette Police Department is actively investigating the tragic death of a woman following gunfire this morning.
According to the preliminary inquiry, shots were fired at a man, and nearby Gerardette Burke was also injured by the bullets, police confirmed in a statement.
Officers arrived at the scene around 6:36 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025. The responding units found two people, a man and a woman, both with gunshot injuries. The woman, identified as 53-year-old Gerardette Burke, later lost her life in the hospital. The man’s situation was reported as stable.
