Fatal Shreveport shooting death of Gerald D. Washington

Shreveport authorities have credited follow-up interviews and witness accounts for the city’s latest homicide arrest. The Shreveport Police Department secured a suspect quickly due to information gathered from additional sources.

Officers were dispatched around 11:30 p.m. Monday following reports of gunfire at the intersection of Egan Street and Gilbert Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered a vehicle covered in multiple bullet holes with its sole occupant, Gerald D. Washington, 55, slumped inside. Medical personnel attended to Washington on the scene, but he was pronounced dead after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

Violent Crimes Unit detectives gathered more testimony from observers and identified Eric Sullivan Jr., 27, as the suspect. On Tuesday, Sullivan was located and charged with second-degree murder. He was processed at the Shreveport City Jail.

Washington’s death represents the 30th homicide in Shreveport this year and the 35th in Caddo Parish during the same timeframe.
