Fatal Hayfield car crash death of Colten Burk

Dodge County authorities are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash Friday night following reports of an altercation at a bar in Hayfield. The incident began when deputies were dispatched to the Center Avenue location around 10:15 p.m. after receiving a call about a disturbance.

According to initial reports, multiple individuals were involved in a loud verbal argument before being separated. When the first deputy arrived at the scene at 10:22 p.m., he observed two motorcyclists speeding away from the establishment on Main Street. Following the speeding vehicles westbound, the deputy discovered one motorcycle had crashed into an outbuilding near Austin.

Emergency responders found 36-year-old Colten Burk nearby and administered aid before transporting him to medical facilities. Despite these efforts, Burk succumbed to his injuries. Authorities subsequently deployed aerial surveillance due to concerns about a potential second crash involving the remaining motorcyclist, though that individual fled the area.

No charges were filed against those initially reported at the bar, as all parties had dispersed by the time emergency crews arrived. The circumstances surrounding the motorcycle’s high-speed departure remain under investigation by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.
