Fatal Hayfield motorcycle crash death of Colten Burk

The Austin man met his demise during a motorcycle accident that occurred subsequent to an altercation at a Hayfield bar, as reported by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.

Hayfield, MN (KROC-AM News) – The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office has disclosed that a disturbance at a bar on Center Avenue in Hayfield might have instigated a fatal motorcycle crash on Friday night.

Deputies were dispatched to the bar on Center Avenue in Hayfield around 10:15 p.m. Friday following a report of a verbal dispute involving several individuals. The initial call indicated it was a loud argument, and the parties involved were reportedly separated.

Upon arrival at the bar at 10:22 p.m., the first deputy observed two motorcycles departing the bar and heading west on Main Street at a high rate of speed. The deputy surmised the motorcyclists were connected to the disturbance and proceeded west on Main Street until he encountered one of the motorcycles.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the motorcycle had collided with a small outbuilding, and its driver, identified as 36-YEAR-OLD COLTEN BURK of Austin, was found nearby in the grass and was unresponsive. The deputy promptly initiated lifesaving measures until the arrival of Hayfield Ambulance Service, but Mr. Burk did not survive.

Due to concerns that the second motorcyclist might have also crashed, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office utilized a drone for a search. It was later confirmed that the second motorcyclist had departed the area.

No charges were filed in connection with the disturbance at the bar. The report states that those involved had dispersed by the time the first deputy arrived.
