Fatal Oneida County car crash death of Michael Lucas
Deputies with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office officially confirmed the identity of the deceased semi-truck driver on Monday. This man was killed during a serious accident that took place in Rome the previous Friday morning.
Investigators have concluded that excessive speed was a significant factor in this tragedy. Michael Lucas, who was 39 years old and originally from Turin, was operating the large truck for Real Deal Landscaping based in Cold Brook.
The vehicle involved was a dump-style truck carrying stone materials. The fatal incident occurred shortly before 8:45 a.m. on Friday as the truck traveled westbound on Route 49. The driver lost control while attempting to navigate an exit ramp leading to Martin Street.
The truck veered off the road, specifically from the left side of the ramp, and subsequently impacted the guide rail located beneath a bridge structure crossing a small stream. Following this collision, the truck completely overturned, with the cab section ending up inverted on the ground.
Michael Lucas did not survive the collision, and thankfully, there were no other individuals injured in this incident. The ongoing investigation continues to explore all aspects of this unfortunate event.
