Fatal Madison County car crash death of Joseph Sands
The Madison County Coroner’s Office has officially identified a man from the Cottage Hills area as the individual killed in a serious traffic accident over the weekend. Sixty-three-year-old Joseph Sands lost his life in a collision that occurred on Sunday, October 5, on the northbound side of Interstate 55, close to Collinsville.
Sands was driving a 1992 Chevrolet S-10 pick-up truck and was the only person inside the vehicle at the time. According to reports, his vehicle slowed down, and it was then hit from the rear by a box truck. Following this impact, the pickup truck caught fire. The driver of the box truck received medical attention at the location and was transported to a hospital in the St. Louis region in a critical condition.
Sands was pronounced deceased at 4:25 a.m. Local authorities mentioned that routine toxicology tests are currently being conducted. The case has not been ruled as an accident yet and remains under investigation. Funeral plans for Sands are being arranged by Marks Mortuary in Wood River.
