The accident occurred while Budhathoki was crossing Cortland Avenue at Anderson Street, police reported. The individual who caused the accident and then fled from the scene.
Binod Budhathoki’s death, which happened after he had returned home following celebrations at a Dashain holiday festival, has prompted a community to mourn and has reignited discussions about pedestrian safety measures in city streets. This incident marks the 13th recorded pedestrian fatality in San Francisco during the year 2025, and residents near the location state that safety problems in this area have persisted for a long time.
Binod Budhathoki, who originated from the Rukum district in western Nepal, is survived by his 8-year-old daughter. To assist with funeral arrangements and provide support for his family, a GoFundMe page created for this purpose had collected donations from more than 400 contributors by Friday morning.
