Christopher Duthridge dies in fatal Burbank train collision
Fatal Burbank train collision death of Christopher Duthridge
A man struck and killed by a Metrolink train at the downtown Burbank station was identified on Tuesday as Christopher Duthridge, 47, from Bakersfield. According to a police statement, preliminary findings indicate Duthridge intentionally placed himself on the tracks as the train approached, and the northbound train could not be stopped in time. The incident happened around 10 p.m. on Friday on the tracks west of the pedestrian crossing at the Metrolink Station located at 201 N. Front St., between Magnolia Boulevard and Olive Avenue. The train involved was a Route 232 service from Lancaster to Los Angeles. Duthridge was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The medical examiner’s office determined his death resulted from multiple blunt force traumatic injuries and ruled it an accident. Following the collision, the Metrolink train’s conductor remained at the scene. Investigations did not suggest drugs or alcohol were factors. The tracks between the Glendale and Burbank North stations were closed, resulting in the cancellation of two late trains and one stopping at Burbank Airport. No injuries were reported on the train. The Burbank Police Department is seeking information about the crash and can be contacted at (818) 238-3210.
