Investigators from the Columbus police homicide division are delving into a fatal shooting that they initially connect to a potential domestic dispute at a house located in the city’s Hilltop region. This inquiry is focused on understanding the circumstances surrounding the death.
According to an official statement released by the police unit, emergency dispatchers were alerted by a 911 call around 1:25 p.m. regarding a shooting incident at Stephen Drive. When officers arrived at the scene, they encountered Feng Yang, who was 74 years old, suffering from one gunshot wound to the chest.
A male suspect, who has not been named by authorities, came forward with the responding law enforcement and admitted to firing the weapon. He provided an explanation that he acted in self-defense after receiving an alleged threat from her.
Paramedics from the Columbus Division of Fire were dispatched and transported Yang, who was in critical condition, to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, which is situated in the Downtown sector. Upon her arrival at the hospital, doctors confirmed her death at 2 p.m.
In the early stages of the probe, officials have indicated that domestic violence might be a contributing factor to the shooting. The case remains active, and the man involved is currently working with the detectives.
