A 28-year-old male, identified as Gavin McLean, lost his life in a collision that took place during the latter part of September. McLean, who hailed from Monroe, was killed while operating his motorcycle on September 18th at approximately 4:30 p.m. in Ypsilanti Township, as confirmed by Cmdr. Eugene Rush from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.
The man, who was the proud father of one child, was scheduled to marry his high school sweetheart on October 11th, according to an obituary issued by Ochalek-Stark Funeral Service in Milan. Details of the incident reveal that McLean was traveling eastbound on Washtenaw Avenue, near the intersection with Rosedale Road, when he collided with a vehicle that was making a left turn onto a side road. The other driver was heading westbound on Washtenaw Avenue at the time of the crash.
Emergency medical services from Huron Valley Ambulance attempted to revive McLean at the scene, but were unsuccessful, with the official time of death recorded shortly before 5 p.m. McLean, who had deep roots in the communities of Willis and Milan, graduated from Milan High School in 2015. During his high school years, he actively participated in cross country, wrestling, baseball, choir, and track and field, showcasing a diverse range of interests.
Described as someone who thrived on freedom and activity, his obituary highlights that he was never content being confined to a classroom or a sedentary lifestyle. He possessed a passion for high-speed entertainment, enjoying motorcycles, Formula One racing, football, remote control cars, and video games. Despite his varied hobbies, his obituary emphasizes that his greatest joys were undoubtedly shared moments with his fiancée, his daughter, and his extended family.
McLean is remembered by his surviving fiancée, daughter, parents, brothers, three grandparents, and other relatives. The family, who declined to comment on the circumstances, is left to grieve the loss of a beloved member who was set to begin his married life soon.
