A fatal shooting occurred in Columbus, authorities reported, with the incident located in the 1600 block of 17th Avenue near Lakebottom Park. Police confirmed one person was shot and killed during the early morning hours.
The Muscogee County medical examiner determined the death resulted from firearm-related injuries and was classified as an accident. The victim, identified as 31-year-old Columbus State professor Erica Anderson, had been named by law enforcement officials.
