Fatal Bronx shooting death of John Martinez

Police have identified the 27-year-old man killed in the late afternoon shooting on Alexander Avenue as John Martinez. Martinez, originally from The Bronx, was shot just moments before authorities arrived at the scene located at the intersection of Alexander Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard.

Emergency responders arrived just before 6 p.m. to find Martinez suffering multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. Medical personnel rushed him to a hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

The New York Police Department is actively searching for four suspects who allegedly fled the area after the incident. Residents or anyone with information are urged to contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.

Officials from the Bronx District Attorney’s Office informed News 12 that Martinez had been formally charged back in 2022. He was identified as one of twenty individuals from the G-Side/Drilly gang indicted on multiple criminal charges, including homicides, non-fatal shootings, and stabbings.

Investigators believe this incident represents a retaliatory act connected to gang activity.
