State agencies have announced the identities of the two men who perished in the fire, naming 60-year-old James Carlisle and 36-year-old Michael Carlisle, both residents of Oswegatchie.

Local residents indicated that the two deceased were father and son, sharing a familial bond.

Investigators from the state police stated that the cause of death for both was smoke inhalation, and the official determination was that the deaths were accidental.

A third individual, Shelly Carlisle, aged 57, was also impacted by the blaze, suffering extensive burns. Neighbors confirmed that she is the mother of Michael Carlisle.

Medical personnel at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse continue to treat Ms. Carlisle, with her condition described as critical as of Thursday.

Fire services were alerted to the incident at the residence located at 15 Overlook Avenue, with emergency responders arriving just before 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

The fire’s origin is yet to be determined, though it was initially classified as accidental by the examining team.
