Fatal Colquitt County car crash death of Erik Kitchens.
Law enforcement is examining a fatal collision that occurred Saturday evening. The incident resulted in the death of a man along Georgia State Route 133 within Colquitt County.
The Georgia State Patrol reported the accident happened around 8:57 p.m. close to the intersection with Mike Horne Road. Police arrived to find a Mercury automobile, which was heading north, involved in the incident. This vehicle was attempting to enter a private property when it was hit from behind by an unknown car.
The force of the collision caused the Mercury to leave the road, spin sideways, and end up in a drainage ditch. The driver of the Mercury vehicle was not injured in the initial impact. However, the police confirmed it was a hit-and-run situation, and the identity of the car that struck the Mercury remains unknown.
Erik Kitchens, who was sitting in the back seat of the Mercury, was taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center for treatment. Regrettably, he did not survive his injuries and passed away later during his hospital stay.
Investigators suspect the vehicle responsible for the collision is likely a Dodge Ram pickup truck, possibly from the 1500, 2500, or 3500 series, and it was built between 2019 and 2024. They anticipate the truck would be missing parts from its front section, specifically the bumper, the grille, and the headlight on the driver’s side.
The specialized team from the Georgia State Patrol’s Collision Reconstruction unit is conducting a detailed analysis of this tragic event.
