Officer Lauren Craven succumbed to her fatal injuries following an eastbound I-8 collision in the Granville region late Monday. The incident proved deadly for the La Mesa Police officer.
A fatal car crash on eastbound Interstate 8 in Granville claimed the life of Officer Lauren Craven late Monday evening. The California Highway Patrol has stated that Officer Craven, aged 25, exited her patrol vehicle to provide assistance at the scene of the deadly crash near Fairmount Avenue shortly before 10:30 p.m. It is reported that the officer was subsequently struck and killed by an oncoming motorist. The driver of the initial collision, identified by family members as De’Veonte Morris, a 19-year-old, also lost their life.
According to CHP Captain Reggie Williams, who outlined the chain of events on Tuesday, the incident involved five vehicles and resulted in two fatalities alongside numerous injuries. He explained that the sequence commenced with two automobiles colliding on eastbound I-8. One of these vehicles, having overturned, was then struck by a second car. Morris, who was occupying the overturned vehicle, did not survive this impact.
At this critical juncture, Officer Craven, who was on active patrol duty, pulled over and stepped out of her vehicle to offer aid. Another car then approached the scene and collided with Officer Craven, as well as the other vehicles already involved in the crash. Following this collision, a fifth vehicle crashed into the ongoing scene, as per Williams’ account.
