The authorities state that the 14-year-old fatality was a registered student at Holly Springs High School. Administrative personnel from the school have officially identified the individual as ninth-grade student Max Dunham.

The incident transpired approximately at 1:40 a.m. on Avent Ferry Road, situated near Holly Meadow Drive. According to preliminary investigations, a direct confrontation occurred between the operator of a Honda Civic and the driver of a Honda Passport. Before the main collision, police reports indicate that one of the motorists made contact with the young cyclist.

Ashton H. Rahlfs, who was piloting the Honda Passport, is reported to be 16 years of age. He is currently facing formal charges of driving under the influence. The vehicle contained three other individuals in addition to Rahlfs. One of these occupants sustained minor injuries that do not necessitate hospitalization and has been transported for assessment.
