State Police from Sullivan County have officially confirmed that a firefighter was killed in an accident over the weekend. The individual involved was Michael W. Hanley, who was 54 years old and lived in Langhorne. According to state police reports, the incident happened on Saturday afternoon when Hanley was driving on a curve along state Route 87 in Colley Twp. His vehicle collided with multiple trees and, by the time emergency services arrived at the location just north of Holly Hill Road, the firefighter was pronounced dead.
Hanley, who was a member of the Dushore Fire Company, was in the early stages of his career with the department. The fire company made the announcement that he had recently retired before deciding to rejoin as a new recruit. He was actively engaged in training programs aimed at becoming an apparatus operator. Additionally, he had signed up for educational sessions related to pump operation and driver training.
