Fatal Santa Monica car crash death of Brad Lipshy

Police reported that two individuals lost their lives and two more were hospitalized after being hit by a motorist who then ran away. The incident happened Friday evening near the Von’s supermarket on Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica.

According to the Santa Monica Police Department, the accident took place around 9:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of Wilshire Boulevard. The car was reported to be traveling in the wrong direction, from westbound to eastbound, when it veered onto the south sidewalk and collided with the people there. Two of the four targeted individuals did not survive their injuries. The other two were taken to a nearby medical center with non-life-threatening wounds.

KCAL news identified one of the fatalities as Brad Lipshy, who was the chief executive officer of a Santa Monica organization that specializes in event planning. The identity of the second person who died has not been made public.

The vehicle involved in the incident stayed put at the scene, but the operator walked off before police officers arrived. The police have described the suspect as a man of Black ethnicity, standing approximately 6 feet tall, and they saw him last wearing a red hat, a black sweater, and black shoes.

The Major Crash Response Unit with the Santa Monica Police is conducting an investigation. Wilshire Boulevard was shut down between 14th Street and Euclid Avenue for several hours due to the aftermath of the accident.
