Two people lost their lives in a severe collision in Santa Monica during the weekend, and authorities have now identified the victims. Police have confirmed that Maura Cohen and Brad Lipshy, both aged 61, were the individuals involved in the fatal incident.

According to Santa Monica police, the two victims were killed when a driver of an orange Dodge Charger unintentionally veered onto a pedestrian pathway close to Wilshire Boulevard and Euclid Avenue. The events unfolded late on Friday night.

Visual evidence from a mobile phone recorded the moments following the accident, showing the unknown suspect fleeing the scene by running along Wilshire Boulevard before changing direction onto Euclid Avenue. Further images from a security camera at a nearby location depict the vehicle moving against the flow of traffic.

Investigators are still searching for the suspect, with no report indicating that the car was stolen. The vehicle, which is linked to a corporate entity registered in San Diego, is currently under examination.

Friends and family of Lipshy, who was the founder and chief executive of a business named Event Solutions, gathered on Monday to leave tributes. Lipshy, who graduated from the University of Texas and played college football, was described as a devoted football enthusiast. Tributes also highlighted his role as a father to four children.

Cohen was reportedly with Lipshy at a nearby sushi restaurant before the collision occurred. Police are coordinating with the vehicle’s registered owner to understand the permissions for its use.

The suspect is described as a man wearing specific attire, including a red hat, black sweater, and black shoes.

In addition to the two fatalities, a second pair of individuals in their early thirties was involved in the accident but is expected to recover from their injuries.

A statement released by Lipshy’s company on Monday expressed deep sorrow, describing him as more than just a business leader but also a loving family member and a positive influence in their workplace.
