Fatal Bellevue shooting death of Ja’Quan Nolan

Law enforcement authorities in Nashville are continuing their investigation into the incident. According to reports, a nineteen-year-old individual, identified as Marquez Reed, caused the death of his cousin, Ja’Quan Nolan, by shooting him in the back of the head on October 18th. This occurred while Reed was allegedly firing at an apartment complex in Bellevue.

Investigators have released an arrest warrant charging Marquez Reed with criminal homicide, as well as felony reckless endangerment and the unlawful use of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. These charges stem from the October 18th shooting incident.

Nashville police indicated that the seventeen-year-old Ja’Quan Nolan collapsed in the parking area of Forest Park Apartments, which is situated on Highway 70, after Reed discharged a weapon towards one of the buildings. Additional charges have been filed against Malichi Cummins, who is 21 years old, and another minor, both connected to the October 18th event. They face accusations of attempted murder and felony reckless endangerment after being implicated in firing weapons at the Bellevue apartment. Police noted that an adult man, a woman, and four small children were present inside the targeted apartment at the time.

Evidence gathered from video footage and witness accounts has helped identify Marquez Reed as the person who ultimately killed Ja’Quan Nolan. It was also revealed that Malichi Cummins was seen on surveillance film removing a firearm from Nolan, as the three involved individuals fled the location.

According to law enforcement, Ja’Quan Nolan, Marquez Reed, Malichi Cummins, and the 16-year-old suspect were all together when Nolan became involved in an altercation with an adult male who was standing on the balcony of his own apartment. During the incident, that adult male sustained a minor graze wound to the chest and received medical treatment before being released from a nearby hospital.

Further details in the case include the status of the suspects. Malichi Cummins was arrested in Rutherford County on October 24th on separate charges of theft. Marquez Reed is currently being held in Rutherford County on two burglary convictions resulting from his arrest on October 24th. The 16-year-old suspect was apprehended in Montgomery County on October 28th and was subsequently transferred to a juvenile detention center in Nashville.
