Marin County authorities confirmed the death of an elderly woman struck by a vehicle while using a crosswalk in downtown San Rafael. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning.
Identified as 86-year-old Susan Y. Jung, the San Rafael resident was crossing Second Street, proceeding northbound on the east side of A Street, when she was struck by an oncoming car. The collision happened around 10:30 a.m. Police indicate the responsible driver stayed behind the wheel at the scene.
The San Rafael Police Department has assigned its Major Accident Team to investigate the fatal intersection crash. This unfortunate event marks the second pedestrian fatality in downtown San Rafael involving a crosswalk crossing in the last month and a half.
