Jason Ellis dies in fatal West Monroe car crash
Fatal West Monroe car crash death of Jason Ellis
West Monroe resident Jason Ellis died following a collision sequence on Cypress Street involving multiple vehicles, police reported. The incident began around 11:30 p.m. when an eastbound car collided with Ellis, who was walking. The involved vehicle then sped away. After the first impact, a second car struck Ellis before emergency services arrived at the scene. Tragically, Ellis succumbed to his injuries near Jackson Street.
The operator of the initial vehicle, a 47-year-old female, has been identified and faces felony charges related to the hit-and-run incident that led to Ellis’s death.
The driver of the second vehicle involved remained at the scene after the second collision. According to Louisiana state law, drivers in motor vehicle accidents must stay until police arrive. Public safety advocates note that hit-and-run crashes are unfortunately common, with numerous drivers leaving scenes each minute nationwide, often due to intoxication, lack of a license, or fear of legal repercussions.
A recent report from the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) highlights pedestrian safety concerns, indicating that Louisiana recorded 152 pedestrian fatalities in 2024, representing a more than 5 percent rise from the prior year.
