A flatbed truck was discovered impounded on Highway 70 East in Smith around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, following a fatal collision involving a power line worker. Johnston County authorities confirmed the incident resulted in a death. The vehicle, described as a truck/trailer hauling a sewer cleaner unit, was located on the highway. North Carolina State Highway Patrol officials provided details about the impounded vehicle.

Ronald Thomas Mayo, a 44-year-old man from Smithfield, was arrested Thursday at a residence along US-70. He faces charges including felony hit-and-run causing death. Mayo is currently being held at the Johnston County Detention Center pending further legal proceedings.
