The local coroner has officially named the individual who lost his life during a serious incident involving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV). According to Will County’s Coroner, Laurie Summers, the deceased is identified as 48-year-old Timothy Barten, a resident of Joliet. The circumstances surrounding his demise occurred while he was operating his ATV and was being pursued by members of the Illinois State Police. This event transpired near the middle of the night on the weekend along a major roadway.
Coroner Summers confirmed that Timothy Barten was pronounced dead at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, located at a specific point on I-55 southbound. This location is identified by mile marker 235, situated within Troy Township. The official cause of death, attributed to the fatal motor vehicle collision, is under investigation.
The Illinois State Police have confirmed they are examining this fatal crash. They noted that an autopsy was completed on Sunday. The final determination regarding the cause and manner of death will only be released once all necessary reports, including toxicological findings, are thoroughly reviewed.
Prior to the fatality, the Illinois State Police had received a report before dawn on Saturday. Their initial call was for citizens to report someone driving an ATV illegally along Interstate 55. This dangerous activity was reported near the nearby Route 30 interchange. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered the ATV. The driver of the vehicle then accelerated rapidly and attempted to evade the troopers. This high-speed chase culminated in a collision with an opposing vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. Tragically, the driver involved in this fatal crash was pronounced dead immediately at the scene.
