The coroner’s office in Laurens County initiated an examination following the discovery of a corpse afloat in Lake Greenwood on Friday. According to official sources, the incident began when two anglers observed the body in the water, prompting the Laurens County Coroner’s Office to open an inquiry. Authorities were then dispatched to the scene, where state agency personnel arrived with equipment to assist in the recovery.
After SCDNR officers responded with their boat, the body was brought to the shore for further examination. The Laurens County Coroner’s Officer confirmed the deceased as Stevie Charles Williams, a 55-year-old resident of Greenwood, identified through fingerprint evidence. The American Red Cross is preparing to contact the victim’s son, who is currently stationed in Germany with military service.
The coroner’s office is currently awaiting autopsy results to determine the exact cause of death before proceeding with any further official statements.
