Fatal Oneida County car crash death of Owen C. Smith
Law enforcement officials confirmed on Monday that the individual who met an untimely demise was a young man named Owen C. Smith, aged 19, hailing from the town of Lee Center. This confirmation came through an official announcement released by the Oneida County sheriff’s office, Robert Maciol.
The serious incident took place on Sunday evening, occurring around 8:40 p.m. at a designated point on Steadman Road within the town of Lee. At the time, Owen C. Smith was operating his vehicle in a southerly direction along this road. However, he experienced a loss of control, veering off the eastern edge of the roadway, and subsequently striking a tree.
He was transported by emergency services to Rome Health Hospital, but his condition deteriorated rapidly, resulting in his death. Further examination by the investigating team suggested that driving at an excessive rate of speed was the principal reason for the mishap.
