The family of a young woman, aged 21, is drawing attention to domestic violence following her death in a Georgia parking lot from gunfire. According to reports, Elajia Whitley was discovered deceased inside a vehicle at a shopping mall in the Duluth region on Friday afternoon.
Law enforcement officials from Gwinnett County state that this incident was classified as an act of domestic violence resulting in death. A family representative, Alfred Uzomah, described Elajia as a person who always brought positivity, stating she emanated warmth from her core being.
“He was always laughing and smiling and just being silly and enjoying life and the people around her, friends and family and coworkers,” a sibling, Davontay Whitley, expressed. No individuals have been officially arrested in connection with Whitley’s demise. Nevertheless, her relatives firmly believe the perpetrator is her partner, having previously expressed concerns about the challenging nature of her relationship and even obtaining protective court orders against him.

She was 21 years old and had recently been pursuing a career in healthcare, holding a phlebotomy certification and attending classes to qualify as a surgical technician. She maintained two employment positions.
A family member, Rhoda Alexander, lamented, “Elajia, it’s so many beautiful things that you can say about her.” She tragically added, “Unfortunately, the person that took her life didn’t see that. He didn’t see the beauty in her. He didn’t see the love that her family surrounded her with.”
Elajia Whitley’s passing deeply affects her household. This young woman, who held two jobs and was furthering her education, has left a significant void. Her brother-in-law, Axel Alberto, remarked on the emotional difficulty of the situation, noting it was especially challenging since the deceased was a young person who seemingly had a promising future ahead.
Family members are urging others who might be enduring similar experiences to seek assistance. “Let your family members know. Let your friends know. Let your coworkers know. Make everybody aware of it around you, so you can get help,” the aunt emphasized.
One cousin, Gerald Johnson, strongly advised immediate departure from such situations, stating, “Anybody that goes through domestic violence, don’t give it a second chance. Don’t give it a second thought. Leave.”
The victim was employed at a plasma collection facility located on Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth. In remembrance, a floral tribute has been placed outside the building premises.
