The Chatham County Police Department confirmed that Delano Middleton, a 48-year-old man, has been apprehended and formally charged with murder in connection with Schroeder’s death. According to WJCL, Schroeder was identified as the victim in the stabbing incident.

Schroeder passed away from his injuries on Monday, October 27. The details of the confrontation were provided by law enforcement to WJRC, explaining that a man was leaving a retail establishment with a shopping cart when Schroeder allegedly kicked it in passing. This action reportedly initiated the violent encounter.

The father of J.T. Schroeder expressed his disagreement with the official police narrative. He claimed his son was generally non-confrontational and insisted the story told by authorities did not represent the complete facts of the situation. The father suggested his perspective was being overlooked.

Middleton was transported to the Chatham County Detention Center following his arrest. WJCL further reported that this individual has a documented criminal background, including previous arrests in 2021 and 2023 for charges related to aggravated assault, battery, and weapon offenses.
