A mother is pleading with the public for assistance in identifying those responsible for fatally shooting her son, Steven Wheeler. The incident occurred outside the Brooklyn Lounge, situated on North Caldwell Street in the uptown Charlotte area, on Sunday, September 22nd. Wheeler was 26 years of age at the time of his death.
No charges have been filed in connection with this deadly shooting incident, as of November 5th. Dawn Wheeler, the mother of the deceased, granted an interview on Tuesday morning. She expressed that her son was a deeply affectionate family man.
“She described him as possessing a very warm and joyful personality. A smile from him could easily bring a smile to others,” Dawn stated. The mother further noted that her son was cherished by those in his circle and was the proud parent of five children whom he clearly enjoyed spending quality time with.
“His nature was fundamentally kind and family-focused. He genuinely loved his children and looked forward to being with them. He was truly a person full of love,” she explained in more detail.
Dawn Wheeler conveyed the profound shock experienced by her family upon learning of her son’s death at the age of 26 outside the nightclub. She recounted the intense emotional impact of receiving the news.
“I will never be able to forget that telephone call. Those memories play repeatedly in my mind,” the grieving mother shared. “The emotional agony is overwhelming; it makes it incredibly difficult to carry on, let alone just attempt to live a normal life.”
The mother asserted that her son had no history of confrontation or animosity. “Even if Steven had encountered someone he disliked, how could such an extreme act possibly be justified?” she posed the question.
Dawn Wheeler is relying on the community to aid law enforcement in their investigation. “Because so many people admired my son, and a large number of people care for him, they are determined to ensure that justice is served,” she expressed.
