Fatal Magnolia Lane Plantation electrocution death of James McEvoy
Louisiana authorities reported Monday the death of a film crew member due to accidental contact with a power line. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office stated the incident happened around 1 p.m. at the 2100 block of River Road in Nine Mile Point.
The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as James McEvoy, aged 64 from New Orleans. An autopsy confirmed the cause of death was electrocution.
Variety magazine reported that McEvoy was a grip working for the International Alliance of Theatrical State Employees union, IATSE 478. He was using a boom lift to adjust a light bracket on a utility pole when the accident occurred. Paramedics were dispatched but pronounced the man dead at the scene.
IATSE issued a statement on Tuesday mourning McEvoy’s death. “Today we grieve the loss of one of our fellow members who was killed in a tragic incident on a production filming in Louisiana,” the statement read. It expressed condolences to the family and crew members, emphasizing workplace safety and committed to providing support to those affected.
The movie being filmed at the plantation, “Kill Me Now,” is described by Variety as an independent slasher thriller.
