D’Hikiyah Sanika Jones Dies in Fatal Wicomico County Shooting

Fatal Wicomico County shooting death of D’Hikiyah Sanika Jones

State troopers reported a second deadly shooting in Wicomico County occurred on November 2nd. In this incident, a woman lost her life and a man sustained injuries. Authorities indicated this shooting was linked to an earlier law enforcement-involved incident in Salisbury.

According to reports from the Maryland State Police, around 5:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to North Westover Drive in Wicomico County following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, medical professionals found a man and a woman suffering from gunshot injuries. The woman was transported to a hospital but did not survive. The man received treatment for his wounds.

The following day, the Maryland State Police officially identified the deceased woman as D’Hikiyah Sanika Jones, aged 44. They also identified the injured man as Ferguson Milford, who was 23 years old at the time. Police assessments suggested a familial connection between the two individuals.

Investigations are still underway to determine the underlying reasons for this violent incident.

Separately, in Salisbury, state police and local authorities were called to Jefferson Street later that evening. It was believed that the suspected individual responsible for the Wicomico County shooting was involved in this new incident.

Salisbury Police confirmed a law enforcement shooting had taken place. They stated that the male suspect involved in this action has since been confirmed dead, and fortunately, no police personnel were harmed during the encounter.

A nearby resident named Teresa Kaatz provided a detailed account of the scene. She described being terrified when the shooting took place, praising the Salisbury police for their professional conduct.

Kaatz stated she was returning home from her daughter’s house in Hebron when the events unfolded. She pulled her vehicle into the driveway around 7:00 p.m., marking the beginning of a terrifying experience.

“I was getting ready to exit my truck when I saw numerous lights and a man standing in front of my vehicle,” Kaatz recounted. “I heard shouting, and he placed a weapon down on the hood of my truck. Police officers were instructing him to raise his hands, after which they began yelling at me.”

She reported that officers attempted to direct her away from the area but were not far from their destination before the shooting commenced.

“We reached the edge of our driveway before gunfire erupted,” Kaatz explained. “We immediately began running for safety.”

The scene at Kaatz’s home showed significant damage. The hood of her red pickup truck and the side of her house were heavily impacted by gunfire.

“My truck is now filled with bullet holes, and I’m unsure if it can be driven again,” Kaatz expressed, wiping away tears. “I was so worried about my dogs, as there were eight bullet marks on the house. Three of them penetrated the interior, and I feared my pets might have been injured.”

She later confirmed all her animals are safe and unharmed.

According to the Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, the suspect was standing close to Kaatz’s car, with an object visible on the vehicle’s hood.

When law enforcement approached, they gave multiple commands for the suspect to comply, but he ignored them and reached for the item on the hood. In response, multiple officers opened fire, striking the suspect.

Medical personnel from the scene provided emergency care until paramedic services arrived and transported the suspect to a nearby hospital. Tragically, he did not survive his injuries.

On Wednesday, November 4th, officials officially identified the deceased man from Salisbury as David Evans, who was 40 years old and a resident of Salisbury. Three members of the Salisbury Police Department were involved in the shooting. Two were experienced officers: one with four years of service and another with seven years. The third officer was a newer member, having served for two years. All three officers were assigned to the Patrol Division.

The Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office is examining the Salisbury police shooting incident. Concurrently, the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is continuing its probe into the shooting that occurred on North Westover Drive in Wicomico County.
