Emanuel Aragon died in a terrible accident in Santa Barbara.
Emanuel Aragon died because of a car crash in Santa Barbara.
A young adult from Oxnard was killed in a one-car accident on the morning of November 1st. The crash happened early on Highway 101 near the Castillo Street on-ramp in Santa Barbara. The time was around 6:44 a.m.
The individual, whose name was Emanuel Aragon, was driving a silver Acura TL sedan towards Santa Barbara when he lost control. The reason for this loss of control is still being looked into by the authorities. He was heading north on the freeway.
According to a statement from Officer Jonathan Gutierrez with the California Highway Patrol, the car hit a tree on the east side of US-101 while moving northbound. After the collision, the vehicle rolled down the slope. The driver was thrown out of the car and suffered serious injuries. Emergency medical services pronounced him dead at the scene.
Battalion Chief Brandon Paige from the Santa Barbara City Fire Department confirmed that Mr. Aragon was ejected from the vehicle and landed in the center lane. The initial police report noted that visibility was poor due to fog at the time of the incident.
This collision caused the northbound lanes to be shut down for several hours near the Castillo Street interchange. Emergency personnel were working there. Traffic was rerouted off the freeway, which caused significant congestion on the city streets downtown Santa Barbara.
Shortly after the fatal crash, two other cars were involved in separate accidents in the same general area. People inside those cars received minor injuries. However, they did not go to a hospital for treatment.
The California Highway Patrol is suggesting that alcohol or drugs could be a factor in Mr. Aragon’s fatal accident. They continue to investigate the matter.
Mr. Aragon’s family started a GoFundMe page on Sunday to help with the costs associated with his funeral and memorial services.
Abel Aragon, who is the brother of the deceased, wrote on the fundraising page, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of my brother, Emanuel. His loss has been very difficult for our family, and we are doing everything we can to ensure he receives the proper send-off.”
“He was a person who was deeply loved by everyone who knew him,” Abel Aragon added. “His heart was full of kindness, he had a gentle spirit, and he brought so much joy to our lives.”
By Wednesday afternoon, the online fundraiser had gathered nearly $13,000 in donations.
The California Highway Patrol is in charge of looking into what happened with this incident.
