Aundre Loyd, 15, dies in fatal shooting at north Minneapolis party
The fatal shooting death of Aundre Loyd, 15, occurred during a birthday gathering in north Minneapolis.
Police responded to the 2900 block of Russell Avenue North shortly after 10:45 p.m. on Sunday. They discovered Loyd in the basement of the residence, the victim of a gunshot wound to the head. Medical personnel confirmed his death at the scene.
Investigators located a 9mm semiautomatic pistol in the basement. A young man outside the home alerted officers to the situation, waving them down because the suspect was inside. This individual stated they had been in the basement when the shooting took place and that they fled the house due to fear of being shot by the suspect. The suspect, a 16-year-old male, was apprehended at the location.
According to official statements, Loyd was a freshman enrolled at Cooper High School. A family representative informed WCCO that the teenager harbored aspirations to play basketball professionally in the NBA. The 16-year-old suspect was formally charged with one count of second-degree murder.
