Fatal Kauai car crash death of Moani Kalima

A young female individual lost her life in a serious accident on Kuamo`o Road in Kauai on Tuesday. Kauai law enforcement reported that the woman sustained fatal injuries from a collision involving two vehicles near Melia Street.

Initial reports from authorities stated that the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. A 2019 model Nissan van was moving westbound on Kuamo`o Road when a 2006 Honda sedan, going eastbound, crossed into the opposite lane and struck the van head-on. Police confirmed that the operator of the Honda sedan was Moani Kalima, a 25-year-old female from the Anahola area.

Emergency services transported Ms. Kalima to Wilcox Medical Center. Unfortunately, she was later determined to have passed away at the hospital. The individual driving the Nissan van, who was identified as a 50-year-old male from Kapa`a, received medical attention for minor injuries that were not considered serious.

Kuamo`o Road remained closed in both directions for nearly two and a half hours to allow Kauai Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section to complete their examination of the scene.

Preliminary analysis suggests speeding might have been a contributing factor in the accident, and tests are ongoing to check for any level of impairment. The official inquiry is still in progress.

This incident represents Kauai’s seventh traffic-related fatality for the year 2025.
