Fatal Anchorage car crash death of Jonathan Quintanilla
Anchorage law enforcement confirmed the identities of three individuals who lost their lives in a traffic incident occurring near Portage during the prior weekend, with the official announcement made on Thursday.
The victims, whose names were provided by the Anchorage Police Department, are Jonathan Quintanilla, aged 51; Maria Sampang, aged 46; and Kaezel Saquilayan, aged 23. Authorities have informed family members of the next of kin about the tragic event.
According to police reports, all three fatalities resulted from a one-car accident that happened at approximately 9:18 a.m. on Saturday, causing temporary shutdowns of the affected road and the Whittier Tunnel due to the severity of the situation.
Tunnel operators and police indicated that the closure was brief but necessary for emergency response operations at the scene. The Girdwood Fire Department was the first agency to arrive and reported that both directions of Portage Glacier Road were blocked off about 1.5 miles before its intersection with the Seward Highway.
A local news outlet attempted to secure additional information regarding the origins of the victims but had not received a response from police officials by the deadline for publication.
