Fatal California shark attack death of Erica Fox – Obituary

Erica Fox, 55, was confirmed deceased after a suspected shark attack off the coast of Monterey County, California.

Fox was reported missing on December 21 while swimming near Lovers Point in Pacific Grove. A search covering more than 84 square nautical miles over two days was conducted before being suspended. On December 27, a body was recovered from the ocean south of Davenport Beach, just miles north of Fox’s disappearance. Family members later identified the body as Fox based on the clothing she was wearing at the time.

Authorities, including the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, and Pacific Grove Police Department, coordinated in the recovery. Cal Fire assisted in retrieving the body from the water using specialized rope systems.
