Fatal Davie fire death of Gloria Dickenson – Obituary
Authorities have determined that a deadly apartment fire in Davie that claimed the life of a 73-year-old grandmother was accidental. Police confirmed that the victim was Gloria Dickenson, who died after a fire broke out last Friday at the Nova Central Apartments on College Court.
Investigators said the blaze started inside a first-floor unit at the apartment complex located at 6857 College Court. Aerial footage from the scene showed Dickenson’s body outside the building, covered as investigators worked, while an open window marked the area where the fire is believed to have originated. Inside the apartment, a severely burned mattress was visible, indicating where the flames may have been most intense.
A man at the scene identified himself as a relative and confirmed to reporters that Dickenson was his grandmother. Another individual who knew her and regularly checked on her shared that he had requested a welfare check about two weeks earlier after noticing she had not collected her Amazon deliveries. He said a family member responded at that time, but did not live at the apartment complex.
Police reported that no other residents or responders were injured in the incident. The investigation concluded that the fire was accidental, and no foul play is suspected.
