Police in Tucson are investigating a deadly shooting on the city’s south side that claimed the lives of two people, including 20-year-old Joshua Mariscal Jr.

The Tucson Police Department said officers from Operations Division South were dispatched to the 3500 block of South Naco Vista, near Kino Parkway and Ajo Way, around 8:10 p.m. on December 27 after reports of gunfire in the area.

When officers arrived, they found Mariscal and a 17-year-old victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Tucson Fire Department crews attempted life-saving measures, but both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said early information suggests the victims had gone to the location to meet two unidentified individuals. After a brief interaction, gunfire erupted, leaving both victims fatally wounded.

Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses as the homicide investigation remains active. Anyone with information about the shooting or possible video footage is urged to contact 9-1-1 or call 88-CRIME to provide tips anonymously.
