Officials with the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner have confirmed the identities of two children who lost their lives in a serious crash on Interstate 5 near Vista Del Lago on Thursday afternoon. The victims were Jorge Preciado, 9, and Jayden Preciado, 6, who were ejected from a blue Nissan Rogue during the accident.

Their father, 28-year-old Jorge Preciado of Long Beach, who was driving the vehicle with six children inside, was taken into custody on suspicion of felony child endangerment. He was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Newhall-area office.

CHP officers were dispatched around 2:56 p.m. after reports of a multi-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of I-5. Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez stated that upon arrival, responders found a gold Toyota RAV4 stopped in the center median with a family member waiting inside. As the blue Nissan Rogue, carrying two adults and six children, approached the RAV4 from the south, the driver unexpectedly lost control, causing the deadly incident.
