Fatal Charleston shooting death of Tristen Mackins – Obituary
Tristen Mackins, a 21-year-old man from Mounds, Illinois, was killed late Friday night in a shooting that authorities are investigating in Charleston.
Charleston Police reported receiving several emergency calls around 10:30 p.m. about gunfire in the area of South Locust Street and South Green Street. Officers responding to the scene located a vehicle that had crashed into a fence behind a residence in the 300 block of South Franklin Street.
Inside the vehicle, police found Mackins suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators determined that the vehicle had been traveling eastbound on West Cypress Street when shots were fired from another location. The gunfire caused the driver to lose control, leave the roadway, strike a utility pole, and eventually crash into the fence.
Authorities believe the killing may be linked to other recent violent incidents in Charleston, including a homicide earlier this month and another shooting that left two people injured earlier Friday morning. Police say the investigation remains active as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the deadly attack.
