Quadir Boykin, 46, died Monday while in custody at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, California.
Riverside County officials reported that jail staff found Boykin unresponsive in his cell around 12:40 a.m. on December 29. Corrections personnel and medical staff began performing life-saving measures, which were later continued by paramedics.
Despite these efforts, Boykin was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
