Fatal St. Croix shooting death of Janice Rivera – Obituary

Authorities have released details regarding a deadly shooting in Estate Rattan, Christiansted, that claimed the life of 19-year-old Janice Rivera on the night of December 30. Responding officers found Rivera unresponsive at the scene, and she was pronounced dead by emergency personnel.

A 22-year-old man, who also sustained gunshot injuries, was discovered at the location and initially treated on the island before being airlifted for advanced medical care. Investigators quickly identified the suspect as 22-year-old Jaden M. Francis. A search of his residence led to the recovery of a firearm, ammunition, and property linked to the victim.

Francis was taken into custody in the early hours of December 31 after being advised of his rights at the Criminal Investigation Bureau office. He now faces multiple felony charges, including first-degree murder, first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, and third-degree assault. Bail was set at $1 million, and Francis remains in custody at the John A. Bell Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility.

The case continues to be actively investigated by the Major Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
