George E. Newsom dies in fatal Gadsden house fire

Fatal Gadsden house fire death of George E. Newsom – Obituary

George E. Newsom, 80, died Wednesday after a fire broke out at a home in Gadsden on New Year’s Eve. Firefighters were called to the 2900 block of Sahan Avenue at about 4:50 p.m. after reports of a residential fire.

Gadsden Fire officials said smoke was visible when crews arrived. Firefighters entered the home within minutes and found Newsom deceased inside the residence. The fire was brought under control quickly.

The Assistant Etowah County Coroner confirmed Newsom’s identity. Authorities said the cause of the fire remains under investigation, and additional details will be released as they become available.
