Thomas Edward Heath, a 79-year-old resident of Huntsville, Alabama, died from injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening on Governors Drive. The incident occurred during the early evening hours and led to his death later that night.
Emergency officials said the crash happened at approximately 5:43 p.m. near the intersection of Governors Drive and Gallatin Street. First responders found Heath in critical condition at the scene.
He was transported by HEMSI to Huntsville Hospital Trauma Services for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, Heath later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Authorities stated that Heath was attempting to cross Governors Drive outside of a designated crosswalk while traffic was still moving when he was hit by the vehicle. No additional details about the driver were immediately released.
The incident remains under review as officials continue examining the circumstances surrounding the fatal pedestrian crash.
