Fatal Boyd County car crash death of Janet Teresa Vodder – Obituary

Janet Teresa Vodder, a 70-year-old resident of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, was killed Thursday morning after a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 in Boyd County. The incident occurred around 8:20 a.m. on I-64 West between the 185 and 186 mile markers amid hazardous winter weather conditions.

According to the Boyd County Coroner’s Office, icy roads, particularly on bridges and overpasses, combined with mist and freezing rain, created dangerous driving conditions. Investigators said Vodder’s vehicle lost control while crossing a bridge, left the roadway on the left side, and became airborne before striking several trees and rolling down an embankment.

Vodder was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities believe that the icy conditions and the possibility that she was not wearing a seatbelt contributed to the severity of the crash.

The Boyd County Sheriff’s Office and Boyd County Coroner’s Office are continuing the investigation. Multiple agencies, including the Cannonsburg Fire Department, England Hill Fire Department, and Kentucky State Police, responded to the scene.
